It came out just after Biden withdrew from his reelection bid, so it was just a few months before we actually voted. I saw many parallels then (as I do now) btw the a16z guys' (and Tech in general's) enablement of Trump & the way US & German businessmen enabled Hitler and the Nazis in the 1930/40s.

In my research, I came across an interview w/ Leo Cherne, after he was awarded the Medal of Freedom for his work with the International Rescue Committee. Hardly any of the interview was about that, though. Instead, it was mostly about how Cherne managed to be a realist while retaining his optimism.

I give you a little more context in this clip than I do in the story, but hang in there until the end, I promise you it’s worth it. It’s one of the few things in the last couple of years that’s kept me believing that we’ll be okay.

The way it shows how badly regret complicates grief and isolates us from people who might understand is so good. The scene where Annie says goodbye to Ellie and GRTA wishes her good luck as they leave her on the mountain turns me into a sobbing mess every time.

I’m not sure how I feel about their portrayal of Owen’s schizophrenia, but the show’s exploration of family dynamics and people’s weird fucking internal lives is pretty damn special.

Are we saying that Leonardo DaVinci licked alchemy? I’ll buy it.

And Bruce finally got his cappuccino! A perfect ending to a, and I can’t stress this enough, extremely dumb and enjoyable movie.

The central premise to both books is female power, they just work at it from different angles. And while "The Power" explores what happens when women claim power over men, "Yesteryear" explores what happens when women cede their power *to* men.

But also: I have rarely wanted to dissect books with other women so desperately as I have with these two books. I keep asking women I know to read them just so I have someone to talk to about them. @sarahinapickle.bsky.social can attest 😂
